What is the SIP?
Skits's Summer Immersion Program (SIP) offers courses in math, coding, chess, and 3D modeling/CAD to students from grades one through six, free of cost. Volunteers from local middle and high schools help teach elementary students as teachers, teacher's assistants, or tutors. Classes take place weekly online for five weeks, preparing students for the upcoming school year and introducing them to the various fields of STEM.
Impact
This summer, we were able to recruit 20+ volunteers and 15+ students. In total, volunteers spent 305+ hours working on lesson writing, communication, and teaching, which was an increase of over 17% from last year's SIP session.
