2022 in Review:

In 2022, our organization took another step further into exposing the youth to the wonderful world of STEM. We brought back one of our most impactful programs, the Summer STEM Immersion Program, in 2022, as we reached out to dedicated and talented students from Whitney High School with a passion for teaching, STEM, or both. As a result, Skits was able to provide a platform for student volunteers to teach STEM subjects to around 40 students from the local elementary schools in an online setting. The STEM topics that our volunteers covered include math, computer science, and chess. In each one-hour class of a couple volunteers and students, the volunteers would go through the slide presentations, making an effort to ensure students are understanding the concepts by conversing with them and giving them practice problems to jog their brains. Our Summer STEM Immersion Program lasted to around seven weeks, with students learning content of a STEM subject at least one hour each week. Overall, we had a successful program and were able to continue pursuing our mission of educating young kids on everything STEM-related.

What's to Come for Skits?

We are happy to say that we are bringing back our Science Kits for Kids in 2023. Science Kits for Kids are hands-on STEM experiments catered toward kids that can be experienced at the comfort of your home. These kits are carefully chosen, designed, and packaged by our team to be safe, fun, and educational. In addition to detailed instructions and activity sheets, we also host online meetings in which high-school volunteers guide young students through how to use each kit. Volunteers also elaborate on the science behind their creations, ensuring that students are having fun, staying safe, and learning STEM. This year, we are partnering with LA County Libraries to donate over 180 science kits to youth in the Norwalk and Alondra areas. Specifically, we will be distributing science kits at Norwalk Library and Alondra Library.

You can order our Science Kits for Kids by navigating to the "Shop" tab at the top of our website and clicking it. Doing so will take you to a page entailing all the Science Kits. You may click on each type of kit to read more about it, and accordingly purchase ones that you like.
